    Adoption

I'm curious, people mention adoption disruption but do people really know what that is and why it's different from an adoption dissolution?

      What is disruption?

The term disruption is used to describe an adoption process that ends after the child is placed in an adoptive home and before the adoption is legally finalized, resulting in the child’s return to (or entry into) foster care or placement with new adoptive parents.

      What is dissolution?

The term dissolution is used to describe an adoption that ends after it is legally finalized, resulting in the child’s return to (or entry into) foster care or placement with new adoptive parents.

The Website also gives statistics on the numbers of disruptions and dissolutions that occur, as well as the reasons. Very interesting topic.

Try the Adoption Registry Connect. If you are adopted chances can be that others are looking for you as well, so registering can be helpful to others looking for you. You can browse other profiles and entries into their adoption databases. If you’re looking in Clark county Nevada, try this link http://www.dcfs.state.nv.us/DCFS_Guide_ReunionRegistry.htm

Most states offer assistance in looking, once you start looking you’ll find out the information you need to get specific information and what is available to you. You can search as the adoptee, parent or a third party in some cases where someone else is doing the looking for you.

There are numerous free people search and person locator type search engines available on line. All that is required is a name. However the more information you have the more you can narrow your search. Something as simple as adding a middle name or initial to the first and last name can make a huge difference in your search attempt. A date of birth or age is very helpful. Former addresses and/or phone numbers, past or present professions and maiden names are very valuable pieces of information. You can begin your search using a people finder website. It's free and basically prompts you through the process. Don't forget to check your social networks, alumni networks and professional networks as well. It's amazing how many people are registered on these sites. It's incredibly easy to find people in this day and age
If you believe the person or persons you are seeking are deceased there are generally archived obituaries available at newspapers. Some are available on line, others require contact, many are free. Death records may also be obtained through Washington State Department of Health, Vial Records.

          Adoption

I have been searching for my birth records for approx 15 yrs. I know who my birth mother is (deceased) and the people who adopted me were all related. My adopted mother's mother was with my birth father before he left her for my birth mother. A lot of animosity and a lot of questions from me. I was supposedly born in Dayton Oh but taken immed to another state. My adopted birth cert says Dayton oh but has my last name as theirs. I want to find my adoption papers. Can anyone help me?

Looking up birth records from state or county vital records offices will probably not be helpful. There are organizations, that may be of better assistance. This webpage to Child Welfare Information Gateway https://www.childwelfare.gov/systemwide/laws_policies/statutes/infoaccessap.cfm from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Children's Bureau. There are less privacy hurdles to overcome when the records are of your own, therefore some guidelines with restrictions may not apply.
