This is a common concern amongst people looking for work. Conducting a background search on yourself first is a good idea and you can see what others are finding out about you. You can clean up your record of possible erroneous information or see what you need to try and expunge or correct before looking for work.

Look closely at what the background check you’re ordering, it’s coverage and try to seek same information an employer is looking for. If you know which companies are used by the possible future employer. You can order a criminal background search from the state police agencies, see what they’re showing as far as criminal records. But many order the full employment screening which can include various background information. Most background checks are conducted statewide and criminal records have a statewide repository for its files. If you’re are new to the state or applying to another state, a search in the area you’re going to be new in will not show more than an address. Your employer may conduct a search of your previous addresses and see how long you have been at your current residence and order the background check where you are most likely to have records.

I am looking for information that took place in 1969-1970. I have the first name of the convicted and conviction. I do not have his last name. I have the information on the crime and the name of the victim. I have many other details but need a last name to search further. can anyone help me locate the last name and the court records.

Depending on the area of the crime, the agency handling it and so on, the record you are seeking will probably be archived. You’re going to need some research work. You can try by focusing on the location of where the crime occurred, then search through old local and state papers to find out more about the event, such as the last name. Or do an online search of this case in the local library and the archived articles. Many libraries (once again depending on where you are) keep newspapers and this information in one form or another from many year ago. The case name will generally be the defendant’s last name, so a court search will probably not be very helpful. Many archived information, articles and documents are not submitted online and therefor a simple search engine query may not be helpful. If the information is held at a particular agency or department, you may have to contact them directly and see if they have information.

A criminal history search can reveal dates, location and convictions. You can order a report directly from the state or local police if you know where to look. You may have to conduct a name search to see where the person lived in case the subject of your search moved from one state to another. Most police agencies charge a fee or you can order an online background search from a private agency. You can conduct the address search online free however as with many free services beware of how updated and accurate this information will be. Most criminal records are based on a name and date of birth search criteria, however other information will be helpful if you’re dealing with a common name as you will need it to narrow in on the intended person.

Wondering if I can obtain any records on kids who started fires in the South Bay area of Los Angeles...this would have been in the 50's.
