In Florida the Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics is where you obtain marriage records. The information you would need would include the date of the marriage. However if you are unsure of the date you would provide a range of years and pay $2.00 for each year in addition to the normal fee. The application to order a marriage certificate is on line. It is possible to order electronically, but the department does offer a disclaimer advising that under Florida law email addresses are public record, so therefore if you did not want your email address to be made public you would need to contact the department by phone or mail.

Marriage records can be requested from the state’s vital record offices, recorders registries and depending on the area, county clerks and court houses. In either of those cases, you will generally have to pay a fee as there are costs incurred in keeping and providing records. A lot of it relies on where it is and which resources are available. Information categorized as public record does not have to be free by law, actually in most cases they’re not, just open to the public, sometimes with restrictions and guidelines.
