    Predators

Predators, watch out. There’s a new private eye in town, and he’s here to help keep all the good citizens safe.

The founder of YourOwnPrivateEye.com, is a man on a mission. He wants to help protect everyone from the clutches of sexual predators, terrorists and bad guys in general. His battle cry is simple: “People, you’re safe. We’re free and we’re here to help you.” His weapon of choice is information, and he’s assembled some of the most comprehensive public databases ever at one online location. Now everyone has the tools they need to find out if that new online friend is really who he says he is, if their child’s new teacher is a registered sex offender, or if the new roommate has a criminal past. The idea is that everyone now has their own “private eye” to help level the playing field against the predators.

Do you really need your own private eye? Consider this: Facebook says that over 1.5 million of its users are affected by impersonation schemes, something to think about for the millions of singles who search the net daily for true love. And if you have small children, it’s hard not to be concerned when The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reveals there are over 700,000 registered sex offenders in the United States. So while taking someone at their word is nice, verifying their background is even better. And the verification can go deep: one click of a button can pull up previous addresses, liens and judgments, divorce and marriage records, assets, criminal histories, and other information culled from public records. As the saying goes, “trust, but verify”.

YourOwnPrivateEye.com has been around since 1999, but is now accessible to the general public for free. The brain trust behind the website has created several of the top directories on the Internet, so they know the power of a good database. And that’s exactly the point. Knowledge is power, and power can keep you safe. “Safety in knowledge is the whole point of what we do.” says the founder. “The goal was to create one site where you can go to get the information you need to feel safe, and we scored that goal.”

Nice to have your own private eye to help keep you safe, even if it’s one that resides in cyberspace.
