The North Carolina court of appeals has mandatory jurisdiction in civil, noncapital criminal, administrative agency, juvenile, disciplinary, and original proceeding cases. The court of appeals has discretionary jurisdiction in civil, non capital criminal, administrative agency, juvenile, original proceeding, and interlocutory decision cases. The North Carolina superior court has jurisdiction in tort, contract, real property rights (over $10,000/no max), and miscellaneous civil cases. The North Carolina superior court has exclusive estate, and administrative agency appeals jurisdiction. The superior court hears felony, misdemeanor, and criminal appeals cases. The superior court has jury trials. The North Carolina district courts have jurisdiction over tort, contract, real property rights ($0/$10,000), exclusive small claims up to $4,000, mental health, and miscellaneous civil jurisdiction.
