Bacon County Georgia Public Records

Bacon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,096. The county seat is Alma. The county was created on December 10, 1914 and named for Augustus Bacon, a former United States Senator from Georgia.

Government

Bacon County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The Board is responsible for setting the county's tax rate, adopting ordinances, and approving the county budget. The Board also appoints a County Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the county.

The county is also served by a Superior Court, a Probate Court, and a Magistrate Court.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 11,096 people, 4,093 households, and 2,945 families residing in the county. The population density was 33.3 inhabitants per square mile (12.9/km2). There were 4,717 housing units at an average density of 14.1 per square mile (5.4/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 73.2% white, 23.3% black or African American, 0.5% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 1.3% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 2.7% of the population.

In terms of ancestry, 16.2% were American, 8.7% were English, and 8.3% were Irish.

The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.02. The median age was 39.7 years.
