Bartow County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 100,157. The county seat is Cartersville.

Government

Bartow County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The Board of Commissioners is the legislative body of the county government and has the authority to pass ordinances and resolutions, set policy, and approve the county budget. The Board of Commissioners also appoints a County Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the county.

The county is also served by a Superior Court, a State Court, and a Probate Court. The Superior Court has jurisdiction over all civil and criminal cases, while the State Court has jurisdiction over all misdemeanor cases. The Probate Court has jurisdiction over all matters related to wills, estates, guardianships, and conservatorships.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 100,157 people, 37,845 households, and 27,072 families residing in the county. The population density was 166.3 inhabitants per square mile (64.2/km2). There were 41,845 housing units at an average density of 69.2 per square mile (26.7/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 81.2% white, 14.2% black or African American, 0.7% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 2.3% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 5.2% of the population.

In terms of ancestry, 16.2% were American, 11.7% were Irish, 11.3% were German, and 8.7% were English. Of the 37,845 households, 35.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 28.2% were non-families, and 23.3% of all households were made up of individuals. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.06. The median age was 36.7 years.
