Government

Bryan County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The Board of Commissioners is responsible for setting the county's tax rate, adopting the annual budget, and setting policy for county government.

The county is also served by a Superior Court judge, a State Court judge, a Probate Court judge, a Sheriff, a Tax Commissioner, and a Clerk of Court.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 30,233 people, 10,845 households, and 8,072 families residing in the county. The population density was 68.3 inhabitants per square mile (26.4/km2). There were 12,093 housing units at an average density of 27.3 per square mile (10.6/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 68.2% white, 25.2% black or African American, 0.7% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 4.3% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 8.2% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 11.2% were American, 8.2% were Irish, and 6.2% were German.

Education

Bryan County is served by the Bryan County School District, which operates seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. The district also operates a virtual school and an alternative school.
