Government

The racial makeup of the county was 68.2% white, 28.7% black or African American, 0.4% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 0.9% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 2.2% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 16.2% were American, 8.2% were English, and 6.2% were Irish.

The economy of Candler County is largely based on agriculture, with the primary crops being cotton, corn, soybeans, and peanuts. The county is also home to several manufacturing and industrial businesses, including a poultry processing plant, a wood products plant, and a paper mill.
