Catoosa County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 63,942. The county seat is Ringgold. The county was created on December 5, 1853.
Government
Catoosa County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, elected from single-member districts. The Chairman of the Board is elected county-wide. The current Chairman is Steven Henry.
The county is served by a Superior Court judge, elected county-wide, and a State Court judge, elected from the county's State Court judicial circuit.
The county is part of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit, which also includes Dade and Walker counties.
The county is part of the Georgia's 3rd congressional district, currently represented by U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Demographics
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 63,942 people, 24,844 households, and 18,093 families residing in the county. The population density was 166.3 inhabitants per square mile (64.2/km2). There were 27,844 housing units at an average density of 72.3 per square mile (27.9/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 93.2% white, 2.7% black or African American, 0.7% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 1.7% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 3.9% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 16.2% were American, 11.7% were Irish, 11.3% were German, and 8.7% were English.
Of the 24,844 households, 35.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 28.2% were non-families, and 23.7% of all households were made up of individuals. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.01. The median age was 38.2 years.
