Chattahoochee County is a county located in the west central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,267. The county seat is Cusseta. The county was created on February 13, 1854.

Government

Chattahoochee County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The Board of Commissioners is responsible for setting the county's tax rate, adopting the annual budget, and approving county ordinances.

The county is also served by a Superior Court Judge, a State Court Judge, a Probate Judge, a Sheriff, a Tax Commissioner, a Clerk of Superior Court, and a Coroner.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 11,267 people, 4,072 households, and 2,945 families residing in the county. The population density was 33.3 inhabitants per square mile (12.9/km2). There were 4,717 housing units at an average density of 14.1 per square mile (5.4/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 57.2% white, 39.2% black or African American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% American Indian, 2.2% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 3.7% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 11.2% were American, 8.2% were Irish, and 6.2% were German.

Of the 4,072 households, 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 17.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 28.3% were non-families, and 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.11. The median age was 38.2 years.
