Dawson County Georgia Public Records
Dawson County is a county located in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 22,330. The county seat is Dawsonville.
The county was created on December 3, 1857 from parts of Gilmer, Lumpkin, and Forsyth counties and named for Senator William Crosby Dawson.
Government
Dawson County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The Chairman of the Board is elected at-large. The current Chairman is Billy Thurmond.
The county is also served by a Sheriff, a Tax Commissioner, a Clerk of Superior Court, a Probate Judge, a Magistrate Court Judge, and a State Court Judge.
Education
Dawson County is served by the Dawson County School District, which operates seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. The county is also home to Lanier Technical College, which offers a variety of technical and vocational programs.
Transportation
Dawson County is served by Georgia State Route 9, which runs north-south through the county, and Georgia State Route 53, which runs east-west. The county is also served by the Dawsonville Municipal Airport.

The Magistrate Court of Dawson County has jurisdiction over civil cases involving amounts up to $15,000, small claims cases up to $15,000, county ordinance violations, and preliminary hearings in felony cases. The Magistrate Court also issues arrest and search warrants, and conducts arraignments, preliminary hearings, and probation revocation hearings.
