Government

The racial makeup of the county was 79.2% white, 17.7% black or African American, 0.4% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 0.9% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 2.2% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 16.2% were American, 8.7% were Irish, and 8.3% were English.

Economy

The economy of Franklin County is largely based on agriculture, with poultry, beef cattle, and hay being the primary crops. The county is also home to several manufacturing companies, including a carpet mill, a furniture factory, and a plastics plant. The county is also home to several wineries and vineyards.
