Heard County is a county located in the west central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,834. The county seat is Franklin. The county was created on December 22, 1830.

Government
Heard County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The Chairman of the Board is elected at-large. The current Chairman is Kenneth E. Smith.
The county is also served by a Probate Judge, a Sheriff, a Tax Commissioner, and a Clerk of Superior Court.
Education
Heard County is served by the Heard County School District, which operates four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.
