The town holds municipal elections for mayor and town council seats in November of odd-numbered years. The council consists of seven members elected to four-year staggered terms, and the next municipal election is scheduled for November 2025, when voters will decide races for mayor and council positions. Beyond town elections, Lexington residents also participate in Lexington County elections for county council members from single-member districts, sheriff, clerk of court, coroner, auditor, treasurer, and other constitutional offices during even-numbered general election years. During the November 2024 presidential election, Lexington County reported approximately 67% voter turnout with over 130,000 ballots cast from approximately 195,000 registered voters, while town precincts generally showed similar or slightly higher turnout rates. On November 3, 2026, residents will face several significant races. South Carolina does not have a U.S. Senate seat up for election in 2026, but voters will elect state constitutional officers including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and other statewide offices. All 46 South Carolina Senate seats were last elected in 2024 and will not appear on the 2026 ballot, but all 124 South Carolina House of Representatives seats, which carry two-year terms, will be contested.
