Richmond County Georgia Public Records
Richmond County is located in the east central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It is one of the original counties of Georgia, created February 5, 1777. As of the 2010 census, the population was 200,549. The county seat is Augusta.
The Augusta-Richmond County government is a consolidated city-county government in which the city and county governments have been merged into one unified jurisdiction. The government is composed of a mayor, a nine-member commission, and various departments and offices. The mayor is elected in a citywide vote. The commission is composed of eight members elected from single-member districts and a chairman elected at-large.
The county is served by the Augusta-Richmond County Public School System. The county is also home to Augusta University, a public research university.
Richmond County is part of the Augusta-Richmond County Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Richmond County and neighboring Columbia County. The Augusta-Richmond County Metropolitan Statistical Area is the second-largest metropolitan area in Georgia, after the Atlanta metropolitan area.
