Government

Spalding County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The Board is responsible for setting the county's tax rate, adopting ordinances, and approving the county budget. The Board also appoints a County Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the county.

The county is also served by a Superior Court, a State Court, and a Probate Court.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, the population of Spalding County was 64,073, with a racial makeup of 57.3% White, 36.2% African American, 0.4% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.

Education

Spalding County is served by the Griffin-Spalding County School System, which consists of 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, and four high schools. The county is also home to several private schools.

In addition, the county is served by two post-secondary institutions: Griffin Technical College and Gordon State College.
