Tift County Georgia Public Records

Tift County is a county located in the south central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 40,118. The county seat is Tifton. The county was created on August 17, 1905 and named for Henry Harding Tift, a local merchant and philanthropist.

Government

Tift County is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners, elected from single-member districts. The Board is the legislative and policy-making body of the county government. The Board sets the millage rate, adopts the annual budget, and appoints the County Manager.

The County Manager is the chief administrative officer of the county and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county government. The County Manager is appointed by the Board of Commissioners and is responsible for implementing the policies and directives of the Board.

The Tift County Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement in the county. The Sheriff is elected by the citizens of Tift County and is responsible for the enforcement of state and local laws.

Education

Tift County is served by the Tift County School District, which operates twenty-one schools. The district has an enrollment of approximately 8,000 students.

The county is also home to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, a two-year college of the University System of Georgia.

Transportation

Tift County is served by two major highways, Interstate 75 and U.S. Route 82. The county is also served by the Tifton-Tift County Airport, which provides general aviation services.
