West Amwell is a small township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. It is known for its rural atmosphere, its historic sites, and its proximity to the Delaware River. The West Amwell Township Council is the governing body of the township. It consists of five members, elected at-large in partisan elections to serve three-year terms of office on a staggered basis, with either one or two seats coming up for election each year. The Mayor is elected directly by the voters to a four-year term of office. The Mayor presides over the meetings of the Township Council and has the power to veto ordinances subject to an override by a two-thirds majority vote of the Council.
