Alamosa County is located in the San Luis Valley of south-central Colorado. The county seat is Alamosa.

The county was created in 1913 from parts of Conejos and Costilla counties. It was named for the Spanish word for a grove of cottonwood trees.

Alamosa County is governed by a three-member Board of County Commissioners. The county is part of the San Luis Valley Regional Council of Governments.
