About Anne Arundel County, Maryland
Arundel County is located in the state of Maryland and is the second most populous county in the state. The county seat is Annapolis, which is also the state capital. The county was established in 1650.
The county government is composed of a County Executive, a County Council, and various departments and agencies. The County Executive is elected by the voters of the county and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county government. The County Council is composed of seven members, each elected from a single-member district. The Council is responsible for enacting laws and ordinances, setting the county budget, and approving the county executive's appointments.
The county is divided into seven districts: Annapolis, Broadneck, Glen Burnie, Linthicum, North County, Pasadena, and South County. The county is served by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system, which is the fifth largest school system in the state.
The county is home to several major employers, including the U.S. Naval Academy, Fort Meade, and the National Security Agency. The county is also home to several major tourist attractions, including the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the Maryland State House, and the U.S. Naval Academy Museum.
