Baca County, Colorado Public Records

Baca County is located in the southeastern corner of Colorado and is the state's smallest county. The county was established in 1889. Its county seat is Springfield. The county has a total area of 1,541 square miles, of which 1,539 square miles is land and 2.3 square miles (0.2%) is water.

The county government is organized into three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. The executive branch is headed by the County Commissioner, while the legislative branch is composed of a Board of County Commissioners. The judicial branch is composed of the County Court and the District Court. The County Clerk is responsible for maintaining the county records and is the custodian of the county seal.

The county's economy is based primarily on agriculture, with livestock production and dry land farming being the most important industries. In addition, there is some tourism in the county, and it is known for its outdoor recreation opportunities, including hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking.

Baca district courts preside over civil trials of $15,000 and above, criminal, probate, juvenile, domestic relations, mental health cases and appeals from county courts.
