About Barnstable County, Massachusetts
Barnstable County is located in the southeastern part of Massachusetts and is the largest county in the state. It is made up of 15 towns and two cities, Barnstable and Yarmouth. The county seat is Barnstable.
The county government is made up of a Board of County Commissioners, which is the legislative body of the county. The Board is composed of seven members, each representing one of the 15 towns. The Board is responsible for setting the county budget, levying taxes, and making policy decisions.
The county also has a County Manager, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county. The County Manager is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
The county is home to several state parks, including the Cape Cod National Seashore, which is managed by the National Park Service. The county also has several beaches, including Sandy Neck Beach, which is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, and other recreational activities.
The county is also home to several museums, including the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, and the Cape Cod Museum of Art.
