About Bent County, Colorado
Bent County is located in southeastern Colorado and is part of the Pueblo, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Las Animas.
Bent County was created in 1870. The county is governed by a three-member Board of County Commissioners, who are elected in partisan elections to serve four-year terms. The county is also served by a county administrator, who is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
The county is home to two state parks, John Martin Reservoir State Park and Comanche National Grassland. The county also contains the historic Fort Lyon, which was established in 1867 and is now a residential treatment center for veterans.
