About Blanco County, Texas
Blanco County is located in the Hill Country Region of Texas and is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Johnson City. The county was organized in 1858 and named for the Blanco River.
The county is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with members elected from single-member districts. The county judge presides as chairman. Other county officials include the sheriff, tax assessor-collector, county clerk, and district clerk.
The county is served by the Blanco Independent School District. The University of Texas at Austin, St. Edward's University, and Austin Community College have campuses in the county.
The county is split between the Edwards Plateau and the Hill Country, and its terrain is mostly hilly and rolling. Its largest lake is Canyon Lake.
The county is known for its many ranches, vineyards, and orchards, as well as its abundance of natural beauty.
