Brown County is located in the west-central part of Illinois. It is bordered by Schuyler County to the north, Adams County to the east, Pike County to the south, and Hancock County to the west. The county seat is Mount Sterling. The county covers an area of 545 square miles.
Brown County is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners. The board is elected by the citizens of the county and is responsible for setting policy, approving the budget, and overseeing county operations. The board meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
