Campbell County, Virginia Public Records

Campbell County, Virginia is a county located in the south-central part of the state. It is bordered by the counties of Amherst, Bedford, Appomattox, Lynchburg and Nelson. Campbell County is within the Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2019, the county had an estimated population of 54,510. The county seat is Rustburg. The County was established in 1782.

Campbell County is governed by a Board of Supervisors, which consists of five members elected by voters from magisterial districts in Campbell County. Members of the board serve four-year terms.

The Board of Supervisors is responsible for setting the county's tax rate, adopting an annual budget and enacting local ordinances and regulations. The board is served by the County Administrator, who is appointed by the board and is responsible for forming and implementing its policy decisions. The Administrator is also charged with carrying out the day-to-day operation of the county.

The county is also home to several popular recreation areas, such as The Peaks of Otter, Clarks Mountain, Jefferson National Forest and Leesville Lake.

Campbell County is served by three different school districts: Altavista Combined School, Brookneal-Timberlake School, and Campbell County Public Schools.

The county is a growing industrial and educational center, with many companies in the area, numerous colleges and universities, and the major medical center of Centra Health.

Campbell County is home to several parks and recreation areas, including Rustburg Recreational Park, Jacobs Creek Park and Fairy Stone State Park.
