Comanche County is located in Central Texas and is part of the Brownwood, Texas, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Comanche. The county was founded in 1856 and is named for the Comanche Native American tribe.
Comanche County is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with each member representing one of four precincts. The county judge is the presiding officer of the court, and is elected county-wide. Other members include the county clerk, district clerk, sheriff, and tax assessor-collector, all of whom are elected county-wide.
The county is also served by a number of elected officials, including a district attorney, county treasurer, county surveyor, and justices of the peace. The county is also served by a number of appointed officials, including a county auditor, county attorney, and county engineer.
