About Cook County, Illinois
Cook County is the second most populous county in the United States, located in the state of Illinois. It is the most populous county in the state and the most populous county in the Midwest. As of 2019, the population of Cook County was 5,180,493. The county seat is Chicago, the largest city in the state and the third most populous city in the United States.
Cook County is governed by a board of commissioners, which is composed of 17 members. The board is responsible for setting the county's budget, levying taxes, and making policy decisions. The county is divided into five districts, each of which is represented by three commissioners. The board is headed by the President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, currently Toni Preckwinkle.
Cook County is home to numerous municipalities, including the City of Chicago, the Village of Oak Park, the Village of Evanston, and the Village of Skokie. The county also contains numerous unincorporated areas, such as the Village of Lincolnwood and the Village of Niles.

The county is also home to numerous parks, including the Cook County Forest Preserves, which is the largest forest preserve district in the United States.
