Crenshaw County is located in the southeastern part of Alabama and is part of the Montgomery metropolitan area. The county seat is Luverne.
Crenshaw County was created by an act of the Alabama Legislature on February 13, 1866, from parts of Butler, Covington, and Pike counties.
The county is governed by a five-member county commission, elected from single-member districts. The county also has a sheriff, a probate judge, a circuit court judge, and a district attorney.
The county is served by the Crenshaw County School System, which includes three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The county is also home to Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, a two-year college.
The economy of Crenshaw County is largely based on agriculture, with cotton, soybeans, and peanuts being the main crops. The county also has a large timber industry.
