About Dekalb County, Alabama
Dekalb County is located in Northeast Alabama in the Appalachian foothills of the Cumberland Plateau. The county seat is Fort Payne.
Dekalb County is governed by a five-member County Commission. The Commission meets on the first and third Monday of each month at the courthouse at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Payne. The Commission consists of a Chairman, 3 Commissioners and the County Judge.
Dekalb County is home to several post-secondary institutions. Bevill State Community College, Northeast Alabama Community College, and DeKalb Technical College.
Dekalb County is also home to numerous recreational areas, historical sites, and festivals. The DeKalb County Fairground hosts several large events throughout the year, and the county also is home to two state parks, two state forests, and two large wildlife management areas. Dekalb County also features a few local attractions such as Little River Canyon National Preserve, High Falls Park, Mentone Caverns, and Cloudland Canyon State Park.
