About Douglas County, Nevada
Douglas County is located in the western part of the state of Nevada and is the second largest county in the state. It is bordered by Carson City to the north, Lyon County to the east, and Alpine County, California to the south. The county seat is Minden.
The county was created in 1861 and was one of the original nine counties of the Nevada Territory.
The economy of Douglas County is largely based on tourism, gaming, and agriculture. The county is home to several ski resorts, including Heavenly Mountain Resort and Sierra-at-Tahoe. It is also home to several casinos, including Harrah's Lake Tahoe and Harvey's Lake Tahoe. Agriculture is also an important part of the economy, with the county producing hay, alfalfa, and other crops.
The county is governed by a five-member Board of County Commissioners, who are elected to four-year terms. The county also has a Sheriff's Office, which is responsible for law enforcement, and a District Attorney's Office, which is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases.
