About Escambia County, Alabama
Escambia County is located in the southwestern corner of Alabama, and is bordered by Baldwin County to the east, Monroe County to the south, and Conecuh County to the west. The county seat is Brewton.
Escambia County was established on December 10, 1868, from parts of Baldwin and Conecuh counties. It was named for the Escambia River, which forms its western boundary.
The county is governed by a five-member county commission, elected from single-member districts. The commission is responsible for setting policy and budgeting for the county. The county is also served by a sheriff, district attorney, probate judge, circuit court judge, and other elected officials.
The economy of Escambia County is largely based on agriculture, forestry, and manufacturing. The county is home to several large paper mills, as well as a number of smaller industries. The county is also home to several military installations, including the Naval Air Station Pensacola.
