Frederick County is located in the northern part of the U.S. state of Maryland. The county seat is Frederick.
The Frederick County government is composed of a Board of County Commissioners, an elected County Executive, and various other elected officials. The Board of County Commissioners is the legislative body of the county government and is composed of five members elected at large to serve four-year terms. The County Executive is elected to a four-year term and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county government.
The county is served by a number of departments, including the Sheriff's Office, the Department of Public Works, the Department of Planning and Zoning, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Department of Economic Development.
Frederick County is part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is home to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, and the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.
