Garrett County is located in the westernmost part of Maryland and is the state's westernmost county. The county seat is Oakland.
Garrett County is governed by a five-member Board of County Commissioners, elected at-large to four-year terms. The county is part of Maryland's 6th congressional district and is represented in the Maryland General Assembly by two delegates and one senator.
The county is home to Deep Creek Lake, the largest inland body of water in Maryland. Garrett County is also home to Wisp Resort, a ski resort located on the slopes of Wisp Mountain. The county is also home to several state parks, including Swallow Falls State Park, New Germany State Park, and Deep Creek Lake State Park.
