About Grayson County, Virginia
Grayson County is located in the southwestern part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains region and is bordered by the states of North Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. The county seat is Independence.
The county is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors, elected from five magisterial districts. The county is also served by a sheriff, a commonwealth's attorney, a treasurer, and a commissioner of the revenue.
Grayson County is home to the New River Trail State Park, a 57-mile linear park that follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way along the New River. The county is also home to the Grayson Highlands State Park, which features hiking trails, camping, and scenic views of the Appalachian Mountains.
