Hemphill County is located in the Texas Panhandle, in the northwestern corner of the state. It is bordered by Roberts County to the north, Wheeler County to the east, Lipscomb County to the south, and Beaver County, Oklahoma to the west. The county seat is Canadian.
Hemphill County is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, which consists of a County Judge and three Commissioners. The County Judge is the presiding officer of the court and is responsible for the administration of county government.
