Iron County, Missouri Public Records

Iron County is located in the southeastern corner of Missouri and is part of the Ozark Plateau. The county seat is Ironton.

Iron County was organized on February 17, 1857, and was named for the abundance of iron ore found in the area. The county is home to the Mark Twain National Forest, which covers over 1.5 million acres.

The county is governed by a three-member county commission, which is elected in staggered four-year terms. Other elected officials include a sheriff, prosecuting attorney, assessor, collector, and public administrator.

The county is served by the Arcadia Valley R-II School District, which includes two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The county also has several private schools.

The economy of Iron County is largely based on agriculture, forestry, and tourism. The county is home to several state parks, including Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, Elephant Rocks State Park, and Taum Sauk Mountain State Park.

The Iron County Missouri circuit court has general jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases.
