Johnson County is located in the southeastern corner of Illinois. It is bordered by the states of Kentucky and Missouri. The county seat is Vienna. The county has a total area of 517 square miles.
Johnson County is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners. The board is elected by the citizens of the county and is responsible for setting policy, approving the budget, and overseeing county operations. The board meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
The county is home to several state parks and recreational areas, including Ferne Clyffe State Park and Johnson Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area.
