Kaufman County is located in the U.S. state of Texas. The county seat is Kaufman. The county was created in 1848.
Kaufman County is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in the northeast corner of the state, and is bordered by Van Zandt County to the north, Henderson County to the east, Anderson County to the south, and Dallas County to the west.
The county is governed by a Commissioners Court, which consists of four commissioners elected from single-member districts and a county judge elected at-large. The county judge presides over the Commissioners Court and is the county's chief administrator. The county also has several elected officials, including a sheriff, district attorney, county clerk, and tax assessor-collector.
