About Kitsap County, Washington
Kitsap County is located in the U.S. state of Washington. Its county seat is Port Orchard, and its largest city is Bremerton. The county was formed out of King County, Washington, and Jefferson County on January 16, 1857.
Kitsap County is included in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is connected to the Olympic Peninsula by the Kitsap Peninsula, and to the mainland by the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. It is also connected to the eastern shore of Puget Sound by the Washington State Ferries system.
Kitsap County is governed by a three-member Board of County Commissioners. The commissioners are elected from three districts within the county. The commissioners are responsible for setting policy, approving the county budget, and appointing department heads. The county is also served by a Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff, Coroner, Auditor, Treasurer, Assessor, and Surveyor.
