Lamar County is located in the northeastern part of Texas and is part of the Texoma region. The county seat is Paris. The County is part of the Paris, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The county is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with each member representing one of four precincts. The county judge presides as the chief administrator of the county. Other elected officials include the sheriff, district attorney, county clerk, county treasurer, and tax assessor-collector.
The county is served by the Lamar County Independent School District, which includes seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. The county is also home to Paris Junior College, a two-year community college.
