About Lawrence County, Missouri
Lawrence County is located in the southwest corner of Missouri and is part of the Ozark Plateau. The county seat is Mount Vernon. The county was organized in 1845.
The county government is composed of a three-member County Commission, elected at-large to four-year terms, and other elected officials, including Sheriff, Prosecuting Attorney, Assessor, Collector, Clerk, Recorder of Deeds, and Public Administrator.
The county is served by the Lawrence County R-1 School District, which includes five elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school.
The county is also home to several state parks, including Bennett Spring State Park, Roaring River State Park, and Lake of the Ozarks State Park.
