About Lee County, Florida
Lee County is located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Florida. The county seat is Fort Myers, and the largest city is Cape Coral.
Lee County is governed by a five-member Board of County Commissioners, which is elected from five single-member districts. The Board of County Commissioners is responsible for setting policy and enacting laws and regulations. The county is also served by a Constitutional Officer, the Sheriff, who is elected county-wide.
The county is divided into five districts, each of which is represented by a commissioner. The districts are: District 1 (Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, and Pine Island); District 2 (Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, and North Fort Myers); District 3 (Cape Coral); District 4 (Alva, Buckingham, and Lehigh Acres); and District 5 (Boca Grande, Captiva, and Sanibel).
The county is served by a number of state and federal agencies, including the Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The county is also home to a number of educational institutions, including Florida Gulf Coast University, Edison State College, and Hodges University.
