About Leon County, Florida
Leon County is located in the Big Bend region of Florida and is the state's only county to border both the Gulf of Mexico and the Apalachicola River. The county seat is Tallahassee, which is also the state capital.
The county is governed by a five-member Board of County Commissioners, which is elected from single-member districts. The county also has a number of other elected officials, including a sheriff, a property appraiser, a tax collector, a supervisor of elections, and a clerk of court.
The county is home to several state parks, including Apalachicola National Forest, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, and Wakulla Springs State Park. It is also home to Florida State University, Tallahassee Community College, and Florida A&M University.
