About Lewis County, Washington
Lewis County is governed by a three-member Board of County Commissioners. The commissioners are elected to four-year terms by the citizens of Lewis County. The commissioners are responsible for setting policy, adopting ordinances, and approving the county budget.
The county is divided into seven commissioner districts, each of which is represented by one commissioner. The commissioners appoint a county administrator to oversee the day-to-day operations of the county.
Lewis County is located in the southwestern part of Washington State. It is bordered by Thurston County to the north, Pierce County to the east, Cowlitz County to the south, and Pacific and Grays Harbor Counties to the west. The county seat is Chehalis.
The county covers an area of 2,309 square miles and has a population of approximately 77,000. The county is home to several state parks, including Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, Mount Rainier National Park, and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The county is also home to several rivers, including the Cowlitz, Chehalis, and Skookumchuck.
