Livingston County is located in the northwest corner of Missouri and is part of the Chillicothe, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Chillicothe. The county was organized on January 2, 1837.
Livingston County is governed by a three-member county commission, with one commissioner elected from each of the three districts. The county also has a county clerk, sheriff, prosecuting attorney, assessor, collector, coroner, surveyor, and public administrator.
The county is served by the Chillicothe R-II School District, which includes four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The county also has several private schools.
The county is home to several state parks, including Grand River State Park, Wallace State Park, and Pershing State Park. It is also home to the Grand River National Wildlife Refuge.
