Mason County is located in the Hill Country region of Texas and is part of the San Angelo, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Mason.
Mason County is governed by a four-member Commissioners Court, with each member representing one of four precincts. The county judge is the presiding officer of the court, and is elected county-wide. The other members of the court are the commissioners for each precinct, who are elected by the voters of their respective precincts.
Mason County is primarily an agricultural economy, with ranching, farming, and oil and gas production being the main industries. The county is also home to several historic sites, including the Fort Mason State Historic Site and the Fort McKavett State Historic Site.
