Mineral County is located in the western part of the state of Nevada and is bordered by Esmeralda County to the north, Nye County to the east, and Lyon County to the south. The county seat is Hawthorne.
The county was established in 1911 and is named for the valuable mineral deposits found in the area. The county is home to Walker Lake, a large natural lake that is a popular destination for fishing and boating.
The county government consists of a five-member Board of County Commissioners, who are elected to four-year terms. The county also has a sheriff, a district attorney, a county clerk, a treasurer, an assessor, and a recorder.
The county is part of the Nevada State Senate's 15th district and the Nevada State Assembly's 38th district. The county is represented in the United States House of Representatives by Nevada's 2nd congressional district.

The court handles cases involving felonies, misdemeanors, juvenile delinquency, family law, probate, small claims, and traffic violations. The court also handles appeals from the Justice Court. The court is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
