About Monroe County, Missouri
Monroe County is located in the northeastern corner of Missouri and is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat is Paris. The county was organized in 1831.
Monroe County is governed by a three-member county commission, elected from single-member districts. The county also has a sheriff, prosecuting attorney, assessor, collector, and public administrator.
The county is part of the Mark Twain National Forest and is home to Mark Twain Lake, a large reservoir created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities.
